Our hardwood frames are made with beech of the highest quality. All our furniture joints are dowelled and glued. Stress points are also screwed to ensure durability. The seat platforms are steel sprung or webbed with high-tension webbing.

The cushions are filled with either memory foam or reflex fibre although other options like feather are also available according to your personal needs and for optimum comfort.

Covering materials: The Venice can be covered in Fabric or Leather or Faux Leather for Vegetarians. We have numerous photographs of items made for our discerning customers. The Monkton chesterfield sofa is a simple, classics design, suitable for smaller homes, though as nearly all of our sofas just among the standard sizes you’ll find the 5 seat version too.

If you have a basement flat, or perhaps a small stairway, our furniture can be made with a variety of dismantling options enabling access and allowing us to deliver your sofa with ease and assemble in situ. An Access Check facility is also available allowing us to assess whether the furniture you are purchasing can be delivered into the room of your choice.

Your guests may never want to leave! Most of our sofas are available as sofa beds. There are a variety of bed widths available and all our sofa beds are constructed using a steel frame with wooden slats and a sprung mattress.

CUSHION FILLINGS

Comfort is a very personal thing. Our selection of cushion fillings allow you to create the ideal comfort for your seat and back cushions. You can choose from foam, feather and hollow fibre. Or choose to mix the fillings such as foam and fibre, foam and feather, or feather and fibre. Our experienced in store teams are always available to discuss these options with you. You can customise the cushion style of the back cushions on your sofa with boxed back cushions, pillow back cushions or scatter back cushions. Come in store and get a feel for your preference.

Almost all of our sofas are available as right angled or curved corner sofas. We can also incorporate a large footstool or daybed for added flexibility. These can be based standard sizes or made-to-measure, using any of our leathers, fabrics or even any kind of waterproof materials.

Beautiful classic piece- this daybed chaise carries more then 200 years heritage in design, still with the right fabric it can get a modern charm!

The history of the daybeds starts at the ancient Egypt times- even at that time craftsmen were able to create daybeds- not really similar in look to the later ones, but the function was the same: provide a comfortable place for shorter daytime rests, sleeping, reading.

Though during the weekday rushing the functionality maybe lost, but the design experience still makes these pieces unique: and sometimes it can really motivate you to have some rest during the day- and continue with refreshed body and mind!

The San Diego Sofa, an extra large art deco sofa design, beautifully constructed and a must for those of us who love to lounge.

Big and Beautiful is how to describe the San Diego Sofa. A big and proud sofa suitable for most surroundings.

It is supplied with bolt-on arm for ease of access. The arms are curved, the width is substantial at 20cm but we will make them slimmer if you prefer.

Strangely enough despite that most of the chaises have French origins this piece is quintessentially and historically English. The design originates from the Victorian times. A Knole Sofa is not just a piece of furniture; it is a classy work of art.  From their history, fabric, style and construction, you can see they have an excellent pedigree and are a significant mark of quality in the world of furniture.  These impressive, practical furniture pieces can be purchased bespoke, brand new, second hand, or as period antiques through specialists or at auction houses.

No one knows exactly when the very first Knole sofa was made.  However, we know that the most famous example originates from about 350 years ago in 17^th Century England, in the county of Kent.  It is there that a sofa of high quality, using the finest English traditional upholstering was created for Knole House; a stately home (the ancestral seat of the Sackville family) in Sevenoaks, from where the sofa takes its name.  Occasionally referred to as ‘the Knole Settee’, some believe that it was the early prototype of the first Knole sofa.  Whatever the truth, experts agree that the Knole sofa that still sits in Knole House is a fine example of the superiority and sophistication of this style of sofa.

Knole sofas still exude the style, class and quality that continue to make them popular today. Knole sofas can be made to measure and covered in any fabric or leather.  Due to the custom nature of so many Knole sofas, they can be made to any size.  At first glance, the Knole sofa doesn’t appear to be the most comfortable piece of furniture created.  With high sides, tall upright back and drop down arms tied by elaborately braiding, it looks rather unusual, but its solid beech frame and wide seats made of Irish duck feather offer unsurpassed space and comfort.

The drop-down arms are a fascinating feature of this excellent example of finest quality furniture.  When fully dropped down, they allow the sofa to be used as a bed.  When fully raised, they keep out the cold, creating a very snug and cosy place to nestle for the evening. In the days before central heating, this was a Godsend for a chilly night.  These days, it may keep the heating bills down!

Historically, it is believed that the high arms were intended to prevent curious servants from spying on what the lady of the house might be doing whilst her husband was away on business!  Whether this is historical fact, or fiction – it makes a great story to tell your visitors as they admire your very own Knole.

A bespoke handmade Knole is not a budget purchase.  It can cost anything up to £5000, but it is a piece of furniture that will last several lifetimes.  It is possible to purchase a pre-made Knole for less, but you will lose the exclusivity of a truly idiosyncratic sofa.  Nevertheless, that shouldn’t prevent you from looking for a great Knole for less; there are lots of places to purchase a beautiful two or three seater Knole for less than £2000.

That a sofa looks good and (or) is cheap doesn’t necessarily mean it  will give you a good return on money spent. Apart from needing to replace it quicker, a badly constructed sofa may be bad for your health. This is particularly true for people prone to bad backs.

It’s important to check:

• The workmanship and how the sofa is constructed. You don’t have much say in mass produced sofas whilst bespoke and handmade can be specific to your needs.
• Internal components and cushion fillers used
• Quality of the upholstery. Your sofa must look and sit good. Is there enough padding? Check that patterns match the cushions and skirt, that stripes aligned at the edges.
• Warranty period offered.
